Yes, I know the Buffy the Vampire Slayer hasn't got anything to do with anime. But no page about my bishounen would be complete without mentioning Spike. He may not be the first fictional guy, nor even the longest-lasting in my poor head, but there is something that keeps him there even after "new" bishi have moved in. Some here say that it's because Spike's the first fictive that never got an original girl to keep him company; I alone filled the role of "the Slayer" with no extra character device.

What probably first got me was the accent. Yeah, I know that it's fake, but during spring 2k, when Amy first introduced me to Buffiness, I was terribly fascinated by all things British. Combine that with a equally terrible fascination with rock stars, and voila, Spike becomes stuck in my head. The events of season five don't hurt, either. From September to May we've seen him grow so much ... he genuinely cares for Buffy. He seems to have no ulterior motive; he wants no money, information, or blood from the Scoobies ... just to be understood and accepted. He helps the crusade against evil not out of obligation, but because he wants to. And of course then perhaps Buffy will give him credit where credit is due. There's a true geniune quality to his character now, honesty, and that is going to help him earn the respect that he deserves.
